A weekend in Sacramento…
I am spending a few more days in Sacramento; not because I love Sacramento or am procrastinating the journey that lies ahead of me; but, because the Universe has blessed me in an unexpected way—and my only appropriate response is to ‘be here now‘; which is a mantra/way of life, provided to us by Ram Dass. Yes, I have studied yoga–and the spiritual teachings that surround it—all my life; and being sequestered in Bubba the Bus, has allowed me the opportunity of a clear mind and the ability of remembrance. I won’t go into the philosophy of Ram Dass here, but, it is interesting for me, that the things I learned in the seventies are coming back ‘to roost‘, as my mother would say–in such an impactful way now.
One of my favorite people on the planet, is my best friend/former roommate, Naz. We’ve experienced a lot of life together over the past THREE + decades; from being locked on a roof, while sunbathing naked, being rescued by the fire department–(which I didn’t think was a bad thing); breakups, heartbreaks, dildos in the dishwasher, near marriages, a night in the drunk tank–(which wasn’t a good thing) and all that wonderful stuff in between that we call life. To say that I love this woman to the moon and back is an understatement.
So when we carved out time to have dinner on my way to Nashville, I was delighted. We went to one of our favorite restaurants, Obo; an Italian Table & Bar concept. We sat under a heat lamp outside, had a bottle of wine, fantastic food and reminisced about ‘old times’; many that we had each forgotten; and upon remembrance, were able to re-live and re-laugh.
Naz has her own bustling business, Apostilles Now, a niche, notary, that enables her to be very successful because she lives in the state capital; hence, her weekend was booked. As the night progressed, her phone kept beeping along; as all of her weekend meetings/obligations, were re-scheduled to Monday. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. We both laughed and thanked the Universe; for creating space for us to have our long-overdue friend time.
At first glance, this may not seem like a big deal–it may seem coincidental–(for those who believe in coincidence, which I don’t). In reality, this is the Universe working; giving us a blessing, which I am very thankful for. And the only requirement from me is to accept that blessing and ‘be here now.’
Gratitude is the single most effective catalyst, I know, for happiness.
